The Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ), in collaboration with USAID Local Impact Governance Project, has kicked off two-day capacity-building workshops for the newly elected Provincial Local Government Gender Equality Sub-Committees (PLGGES) in Muchinga, Eastern and Central Provinces aimed at advancing Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in local governance.
The training, which commenced today with Muchinga Province being the first, intends to equip the PLGGES with vital skills to develop and implement gender action plans, enabling greater inclusion of women and men in local governance processes. The PLGGES in Muchinga consists of elected and appointed members from Mafinga, Chinsali, Isoka, Nakonde, Shiwang'andu, Lavushimanda, Kanchibiya, and Mpika Councils.
Today’s training focused on:
-Understanding the roles, responsibilities, and composition of the PLGGES.
-Learning basic concepts of gender, equality, equity, and inclusion and;
-Reviewing legal frameworks from international to domestic laws supporting gender equality and social inclusion.
These workshops are designed to foster a more inclusive governance structure by enhancing the capacity of these committees to monitor, communicate, and report on GESI in their respective areas.
